In the center of the prefecture lay both Shosenkyo Gorge and Takeda Shrine, where famous Warring States-era general Shingen Takeda is enshrined. Head to the northwest and you’ll find a rich assortment of beautiful landscapes, including a sunflower field where some 600,000 sunflowers bloom. Yamanashi Prefecture is also popular as a hot springs destination with spots like Shimobe Onsen, Nishiyama Onsen, and Hottarakashi Onsen, where you can soak in the waters as you greet the rising sun. For the local flavor, we suggest both simmered abalone as well as hoto, an udon miso stew.
