As Japan’s largest body of fresh water, Lake Biwa is registered as a national park. There are also a number of notable temples and shrines in the area, including Mii-dera and Ishiyama-dera in Otsu, Hiyoshi Taisha, and Enryaku-ji, which is registered as a World Heritage Site. Locales to enjoy cherry blossoms and autumn leaves are abundant, making Shiga a great destination in any season.
