Easily accessable from central Tokyo, this mountain was designated as Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park in 1967. Takaosan Yakuoin Yuki temple, located up on the mountainside, has a history of 1200 years, and is popular for a New Year's visit. The mountain's beginner-friendly hiking path surrounded by a rich variety of plants, such as Japanese beech and oak, is the major attraction.
