The ”Legend of Princess Tatsuko,” is a story about a very beautiful woman who wished for eternal beauty and was turned into a dragon, and remains associated to this lake to this day. There are still four statues related to the legend by the side of the lake, which, with a depth of 423.4 meters, boasts being the deepest lake in Japan.
Sako, Kata-aza, Tazawako, Senboku, Akita
The lake, along with the statues next to it, is very popular for the fairytale-like mood that takes over the area as the sun sets.
From JR Tazawako Station, take the Ugokotsu Bus on the Tazawako Isshu Line, which runs along the perimeter of Lake Tazawa, and get off at the "Tazawako-han" bus stop.
