In 1993, this place became one of the first sites ever designated as a World Heritage site in Japan. An extensive mountain zone of 130,000 hectares spreads out and the part with virgin beech forest is designated as a World Heritage. Without no human interference, these measureless native forests are blessed with rich flora and fauna.
