The tip of Cape Soya is the northernmost tip of Japan, at a latitude of 45°31'22”N. The ocean stretches out in three directions. Directly ahead, 43km away, floats Sakhalin Island, hitting home that it is truly the northernmost tip.
Soyamisaki, Wakkanai, Hokkaido
A stone monument was built to celebrate the cape as Japan's northernmost tip. Using the North Star for its motif, the middle of the pedestal points north and the pedestal's round shape represents peace and harmony.
From Wakkanai Station on the Soya Main Line take the Soya Bus bound for Omisaki Elementary School and get off at Cape Soya (50 min)
