One of the remains of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which flourished for 450 years between 1429 and 1879, this castle is considered a cultural symbol, full of the history of the kingdom. In 2000, it was registered as a World Heritage site known as ”Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.” Located on elevated ground overviewing the town of Naha, it was something of a holy place.
