Established more than 1,400 years ago in 606. In honor of the temple’s beauty, the missionary Luis Frois called it “Heaven on Earth”. The “hyakusai” in Hyakusaiji is sometimes read to mean “one hundred colors”. The middle to end of November is the best time to see the autumn leaves.
