Jigokudani Monkey Park
©AFLO, Masami Goto
This is the only place in the world where you can witness monkeys sitting in hot springs. It is said that a single baby monkey first got into the hot spring, and from there it took off with all the other monkeys too. It is surely the same throughout the world that all new things begin with a young person that knows no fear.

Winter is the best season to visit Jigokudani since monkeys there bathe in hot springs to protect themselves against the cold weather. To reach Yaen Koen it takes about 30 minutes by foot on snowy mountain trail, so make sure to bring appropriate clothes and footwear.
