The festival is held in Nagasaki, which decorates the city with almost 15,000 lanterns and various handicrafts. The festival originated from the Chinese New Year Festival (Spring Festival) celebrated in Shinchi, Nagasaki's China Town. The festival gained its nationwide fame as the major winter seasonal event when it was expanded in 1994. In addition to the mesmerizing lanterns, visitors can enjoy the traditional Chinese lion dance and acrobatic performances.
