Shuzenji Onsen（hot spring)
©AFLO, Hideki Nawate
Chosen as one of the Nihon Meito 100-Sen (100 best hot springs in Japan), Shuzenji is popular as a hot spring resort area both domestically and internationally. This is a very complete hot spring town, as it offers lodging facilities, restaurants, leisure facilities, and souvenir shops among others. The hot spring itself is the oldest in Izu, and is believed to have been opened by Kobo Daishi, one of the most influential priests of the 8th century. It is said that its alkaline simple hot spring water is effective to treat cold sensitivity, muscle pain, and to recover from exhaustion.
