The three-story pagoda located in the Hokki-ji Temple grounds was built in 706 AD, and is the oldest of its kind in Japan. The pagoda is listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. When viewing the pagoda from afar, as it stands amid rice and cosmos fields surrounding Hokki-ji Temple, one can truly imagine ancient Japan.
