Midagahara Marsh, situated on the 8th station of Mt. Gassan, is well known as an alpine plant habitat and is sometimes called the "paradise of the heavens". In July and August, the marsh is filled with more than 130 kinds of flowers including Nikko day lily and skunk cabbage. In mid-September, the entire marsh is warmly enveloped with Kusa-Momiji alpine plants that turn a beautiful golden yellow.
