Mt. Tateyama, Midagahara Wetlands
©AFLO, Iwao Kataoka
The Mt. Tateyama Midagahara Wetlands extend throughout the highland, with many beautiful alpine plants such as cotton grass spread throughout the fresh green fields. More than 3,000 pools of water are scattered throughout the highland, and the deep blue water makes for a pleasant contrast with the surrounding sea of green. The most impressive ZEKKEI landscape in Tateyama can be seen in mid-September: the entire mountain is covered by a forest painted in deep reds and yellows.

Tateyama Midagahara is a Ramsar Site (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). And as such, visitors are asked to respect the environment and refrain from, for example, trying to take any of the plants home with them.
From Toyama Chiho Railway Murodo Station, it is a 15-minute ride by a Tateyama Kogen Bus for Bijodaira. Get off at Midagahara.
