Shibu Toge Pass
Where did you shoot?
Shibu Toge Pass runs between Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane and Mt. Yokote. From the road, which reaches a maximum altitude of 2,172m above sea level, you can see an amazing panoramic view of Gunma Prefecture's Yoshigahira Wetland. During the fall foliage season, the view of the landscape from the road is fabulously colorful. And if you are lucky, you can see the golden sunrise sparkle on the Unkai (Sea of Clouds) early in the morning.
Hirao, Yamanouchi-machi, Shimotakai, Nagano
During the winter (late November to late April), the Shibu Toge Pass may be closed due to snow.
Shibu Toge Pass is the highest elevation National Route in Japan. At the Shibutoge Hotel located on the Gunma-Nagano border, for a mere JPY 100 they will issue a certificate that confirms you have in fact reached the highest elevation National Route in Japan.
From Yudanaka Station on the Nagano Electric Railway Nagano Line, take a Nagano Bus for Shrine Kazan, and get off at Shibu Toge. It is a 60-minute ride.
A 60-minute drive from Joshinetsu Expressway Shinshu-Nakano Interchange via Shiga-Nakano Toll Road and National Route 292.
