Takayama Old Town
©AFLO, Hideaki Tanaka
The area around Kami-Ichino Town, Kami-Nino Town and Kami-Sanno Town in Hida-Takayama developed as a city of merchants and is called as ”Sanmachi Dori” or San Town street. Lining the streets are old houses with detailed, traditional latticed bay windows. This is a spot where people can fully enjoy the tradition of Japan, by riding a Jinrikisha (or a rickshaw, a human-powered vehicle), by visiting sake breweries, or visiting tea shops that serve Japanese-style sweets.
Kami san-no machi, Takayama, Gifu
It is designated by Japanese government as a Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings. Visiting in the early morning will offer a different aspect of the place as there will be many people during the day time.
