Long ago, this port town prosepered as the ”port of opporunity”. It's also the place that animator and director Hayao Miyazaki based his ideas for the movie, ”Ponyo”. Because of the port's prosperity, you can see the remains of the shared advanced cultures from Heian era to Edo era in the architectural structures.
