The temple was founded in 1678 by Enkoinden Zuiun Buneini Daishi, and deified Keisen Soryu, the 10th generation monk of Myoshinji Temple. The beautiful garden was designed to present Mount Hiei in its background, and the temple’s autumn leaves are amazing.

Visitors can enjoy the magnificent view of Mt. Hiei at the back of the red-leaves integrated into the landscape of the garden using the "shakkei" technique. Kyoto becomes very crowded during the season of the autumn tints, but since Entsu-ji Temple is located in a quiet residential area, visitors of this temple can relatively enjoy a calmer mood as they take in the view.
