"Boys, be ambitious." Spoken by Dr. William S. Clark, the founder of Sapporo Agricultural College (SAC), these words remain well-known in Japan even now. Dr. Clark's SAC would one day become Hokkaido University, which has attracted many students from outside of Hokkaido thanks to its scholastic tradition built upon humanistic education, international character, and a frontier spirit that does not balk in fashioning the future. The avenues of gingko trees and historical buildings give you a sense of the vastness of time that has flowed through this campus. On a side note, the area around the university has many delicious and well-priced restaurants perfect for a culinary wander.
