Much-loved by the people of the city, who have given it the nickname “O-kushida-san”, this shrine houses the area’s guardian deity, which is associated with divine favor for longevity and prosperity. Held in July, the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is one of the symbols of summer in the Hakata area.
