A crater lake at the summit area of Mount Haruna. It was formerly called ”Ikaho-numa” because it is located near the Ikano Onsen. During summer, the lake shore area is used for camping sites and visitors enjoy bass fishing. You can also enjoy the sightseeing boat ride and ”Swan Boat” pedal boats.
Harunasanmachi, Takasaki, Gunma
During winter, the frozen lake becomes the good place to ice fishing for wakasagi (Japanese smelt) and ice skating. The lake, however, is not fit to bathe as the locals warn that the lake bed is covered with tall algae and aquatic plants that might tangle into feet when you swim. Even locals never dive into the water even during summer.
