It is the 6th largest lake in Japan with an area of 80 square kilometers, and is the largest caldera lake in the country. Enjoyable in summer and winter with hot springs and many other attractions. Flocking swans and ”Omiwatari” in winter are must-sees. Omiwatari's ice ridges were made by the repeated expansions and contractions of the ice on the lake that can be as big as 10km long and 2m high.
