After copper deposits were discovered in 1690, this mine produced a mass amount of copper until 1973. The mine prospered for many years, with its copper used to build homes for miners, schools for the miners' children, and theaters until the mining ended. The scene today, located deep in the mountains, is also referred to as the ”Oriental Machu Picchu.”
