The town of Shizukuishi in Iwate Prefecture is famous for being held at the 1993 Alpine Skiing World Championships. With its hot springs, ski slopes, and Koiwai Farm, the area has many tourist spots. Many people from Japan and abroad visit this area for winter sports, as it has a full-scale downhill course, which is rare in Japan.
