Enjoy strolling about an old town in Takayama. Here you will find charming machiyas (traditional townhouses,) sake brewers, miso shops, shops selling miscellaneous goods, cafés, souvenir shops, and stalls selling Hida beef and mitarashi dango (skewered rice dumplings in a sweet soy glaze), which you can snack on as you walk around. You can even rent a kimono to further enjoy the atmosphere. The gassho-zukuri concentrated areas in Shirakawa Lake, registered as World Heritage site, are also beautiful. The area is full of sightseeing spots where you can experience the wisdom and skill of tradition, along with the sublimity of nature.
