Gion, Higashiyama, & Around Kitashirakawa

The Higashiyama area is littered with places of historical interest, such as Kiyomizudera Temple, known for its "Kiyomizu no butai (the stage of Kiyomizu)," and the "Reiunin Garden," which was restored after the war by Mirei Shigemori (a garden researcher).
The Gion area is also home to "Yasaka Shrine," which is believed to ward off bad luck, bring good luck to couples, and is famous for the "Gion Festival," one of the three largest festivals in Japan.
The area around Kita Shirakawa is also home to the "Ginkakuji Temple," a must-see spot on any trip to Japan. Another charm of this area is that you can enjoy visiting precious temples and shrines.
