The symbols of the prefecture are the whirlpools of the Naruto Straight, which grow as large as 20 m in diameter. If you head inland to the ravines of Mount Tsurugi, you’ll find the secluded Iya Valley. Come summer, there’s also the Awa Odori Bon dance, held across the country but ultimately an original part of Tokushima culture. Every year in August, the largest Awa Odori dance festival in all of Japan is held in Tokushima City.
