Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, is located in the western part of Aomori Prefecture and is famous for its cherry blossoms. The city developed as a castle town of the Tsugaru domain, and in the Meiji era (1868-1912), many churches and Western-style buildings were built. Today, the area has a modern atmosphere with a mix of Japanese and Western-style cultures. "Mt. Iwaki," the highest mountain in the prefecture, is also called "Tsugaru Fuji" and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
