Fall is almost here! 7 places to visit in November
November is when the autumn leaves are at their peaks nationwide, including the Kanto area. You must be able to feel the hints of autumn around you as well. 1. Meigetsu-in Temple (Kamakura) | A famous spot in Kamakura for autumn leaves that will captivate you through its round window

2. Otaguro Park (Tokyo) | Enjoy the autumn leaves easily at the garden in Ogikubo

In the midst of Tokyo, there is a little-known spot where you can enjoy beautiful autumn leaves. This is the easily accessible Otaguro Park, located only about 10 mintues by foot from Ogikubo Station. Although it is called a park, it does not have any playground equipmet for children, but it is a Japanese landscape garden with a circular path. This park was originally created on the former residence of a music critic named Motoo Otaguro. In autumn, you can enjoy a view of the colorful autumn leaves around the memorial hall, the stone pavements, and a pond.

3. 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (Kanazawa) | Enjoy the autumn season by jumping into the world of contemporary art

Inside the glassed-in circular building, there are many spacious rooms with unique installations. You can enjoy the works of art freely, by looking at them from different angles or taking pictures.

5. Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens & Ropeway (Hyogo) | A panoramic view of the mountains and the town of Kobe filled with autumn colors

This Herb Garden is one of Japan's largest, where you can enjoy about 75,000 flowers of 200 different kinds, and some food and tea made from these herbs. The herbs are not the only fascinations of the garden. Including about 500 Japanese maple trees, there is a variation of trees like mountain cherry trees and wax trees that create a breathtaking view of autumn leaves.

To fully enjoy these autumn leaves, I recommend going on the ropeway where you can take a 10 minutes walk through the skies at an altitude of 400 meters. Below you can see a panoramic view of a fairy-tale world of the herb garden, and the mountains and the streets of Kobe filled with autumn colors. The peak of the autumn leaves is from mid-November to early December.

6. Kuwayama Shrine (Kyoto) | Admire the autumn leaves of the old shrine with a history of over 1,300 years

The Kuwayama Shrine is an old shrine with a history of 1,300 years that was mentioned in the "Engishiki Jinmyocho", a list of shrines that was written during the Heian period. This shrine has been famous for its autumn leaves for many years, and from early November, about 1,000 maple trees fill the shrine grounds with their beautiful vermillion color.

There is an Autumn Leaves Festival held from November 11th, 5pm, where you can enjoy a mini concert of the "erhu", a 2-stringed Chinese instrument. 7. Koto Sanzan Saimyoji Temple (Shiga) | The temple that was chosen by CNN where you can enjoy both autumn leaves and cherry blossoms

The Koto Sanzan Saimyoji Temple of Shiga was selected as one of "Japan's 31 most beautiful places" by CNN. From mid-November to late November, you can enjoy a magnificent view of Japanese maple trees that fill the temple grounds with their beautiful colors. The fascinations of the Saimyoji Temple are not only the autumn leaves, but also the winter cherry blossoms that bloom from autumn to spring.

西明寺

The winter cherry blossoms also reach their peak during the autumn leaves season in November. Winter cherry blossoms are cute and small, unlike the gorgeous cherry trees of the spring. How about enjoying the admirable winter cherry blossoms and the breathtaking autumn leaves together under the wintry sky? Be careful when you visit, because there is another temple of the same name in Kyoto.
