The Shichimenso Fields of the Higashiyoka Coast
The salt plant, shichimenso (suaeda japonica) grows in abundance in the tidelands of Western Japan. This plant only grows in places with a calm sea with little tidal action. It changes to a purple color from the beginning of November - hence it is commonly referred to as “the autumnal colors of the sea”. This purple scene of the Ariake Sea is widely known across Japan, with it being magnificently lit-up from late October to early November.
