This is the northern-most operating railway station in the prefecture. It is also the deepest station in Japan with the southbound platform being located 82 meters below ground in the Shinshimizu tunnel. Due to this depth, it is often referred to as "The First Mole Station of Japan". It was also chosen as one of the "Top 100 Stations of the Kanto Region".
