Shiroyama Park holds the ruins of Mogi Castle (Kikyo Castle), built in the Kamakura era (1185-1333). Beautiful cherry blossoms bloom profusely here during spring, and cluster-amaryllis decorate the park in fall. These 400,000 cluster-amaryllis flowers, which dye the southern slope of the park red during mid-September to late-October, are quite rare in Japan and attract a vast number of photographers eager to capture the scene on film. The small hill in the park overlooks the central part of town, as well as Sakagawa River, and the smoke rising from the steam locomotive trains in the distance.
