This famous waterfall has been selected as one of “The Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan”. The great roar of the water splashing against the columnar basalt walls echoes all around the surrounding forest. It is for this reason that the waterfall is also often referred to as “Earthquake Waterfall”. The most popular season to visit this waterfall is during the spring when the snow is thawing (the amount of water increases in spring due to the thawing snow, which in turn increases the intensity of the waterfall). Mid-October is also highly popular due to the beautiful autumnal colors. Even the lush greens of the area can be enjoyed in spring and summer; thus making it an enjoyable destination regardless of the time of year.
