Yamate Western-style Houses
- 山手西洋館
- Yokohama
These houses, located in the vicinity of the main street of Yamate, Yokohama City, built during Meiji to early Showa period, are rich in various histories and traditions. Seven houses stand side-by-side along this area: the Diplomat's House, Bluff No. 18, Berrick Hall, Ehrismann Residence, Bluff No. 234, British House Yokohama, and Bluff No. 11. The Diplomat's house is an important cultural asset in Japan, while Berrick Hall boasts of being a large-scale pre-war Western style house; its architectural value is also worth noting. Despite being incredibly important Western-style buildings, admission to these houses is free, as repeated visits are highly encouraged.
