Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine
This Shinto shrine was the setting for the anime movie, "Into the Forest of the Fireflies' Light," and has become popular in social networking sights for its nearly 100 lanterns lined up along the entrance pathway to the shrine, almost as if it was "leading to a mysterious unknown world." Behind the temple is a rock: the "Hogeto Iwa Rock," with a large windhole of around 10 meters all around that was allegedly kicked open by Kihachi, a follower of Takeiwatatsu no Mikoto (the god who created Mt. Aso). It is said that touching this rock brings good luck to those who wish to pass an exam or win a match, since if wind can pass through a huge rock such as this one, then anything is possible. The sacred Nagi Tree in the area is also famous for bringing prosperity to businesses and relationships.
