With an area of more than eleven thousand square meters, this Japanese garden is one of Nara prefecture's foremost attractions. It is composed of two parts which are linked together: the "Front Garden," built during the Edo period by fabric merchang Dosei Kiyosumi, and the "Back Garden," built by businessman Tojiro Seki during the Meiji period. Whereas the front garden is isolated from the outside world, the back garden allowed visitors to enjoy the scenery of its surroundings, such as the mountains of Kasuga and the roof of the great gate of Todaiji Temple. The various plants and flowers growing throughout the seasons are a highlight in this area: cherry blossoms in spring, water lilies in summer, colorful leaves in autumn, and camellia in winter.
