This mass of ice can be seen in the sandy beach near the mouth of the Tokachi River in the town of Toyokoro in the Tokachi Region. From mid-January to the end of February, numerous clear ice crystals shoot up in the area, which shine like jewels under the sunlight, earning them the name "Jewelry Ice." They are similar to drift ice, except these are transparent unlike drift ice, which is white. The scenery varies depending on the weather and time of day. It is a spectacular and mysterious scenery that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
