This gigantic rock wall is about 80 meters high and 550 meters all around. It is a designated scenic natural treasure of Mie Prefecture. Legend states that Emperor Jimmu, Japan's first emperor, landed on it when he took control of Yamato (the present Nara). The fact that "Tategasaki" also appears in the memorandum of the Heian era shows the depth of its history. These days, promenades have been set up in the area, and visitors can enjoy hiking, and see the nearby sights via a pleasure boat.
