Loggerhead turtles come ashore to lay their eggs from mid-May to mid-August every year on Ohama Beach, which has a shallow sandy beach extending for about 500 meters with little change in the environment. During the spawning period, the beach and surrounding roads are regulated to protect the turtles, and conservation monitors are on duty. The white sandy beach is famous as a scenic spot with a tropical feel, selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan. Near the beach, there is the Sea Turtle Museum, where you can learn about the evolutionary process and ecology of turtles.
