Areikarasukojima is a park in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, where Maritime Self-Defense Force submarines and destroyers dock in the harbor, making it the only place in Japan where you can see submarines up close.
The name "Alley Karasukojima" is derived from the English word "Alley" and "Karasukojima" ("Karasuko Island"), which was reclaimed as a torpedo launch training ground in the Taisho era.
This area used to be the navy's home base, and the battleship Yamato was secretly built in a nearby dock. Today, the old naval arsenal and the old torpedo loading cranes still remain, giving the area a unique atmosphere.
