Point
On the fourth Saturday of each January, the dead grass of Mt. Wakakusa is burned in an annual festival known as Yamayaki. This is the traditional event to herald the arrival of early spring in the ancient city Nara. An enormous flame jetting into the winter sky is truly spectacular. A firework display is held just before the Yamayaki event.
