Hamaoka Sand Dunes Hamaoka Sand Dunes

The Hamaoka Sand Dunes in Omaezaki Enshu Nada Prefectural Natural Park is part of the Nanendai Sand Dunes, and the sand that accumulates on the dunes is the sediment that flows out of the Tenryu River and the coastal currents and strong westerly winds. It was carried inland and deposited in the mouth of the Niino River, which flows through Omaezaki City and formed into sand dunes.
In summer, it becomes a popular swimming beach, and in winter, the prevailing westerly winds cause wind ripples to appear on the surface of the dunes, creating an artistic scene. The windmills of the Omaezaki wind power plant lined up along the coast, the blue sky, and the scenery of the Hamaoka dunes create an open atmosphere like a resort.
