In the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine World Heritage Site, there are many spots where you can learn about the history of the site, but the only site that is open to the public all the time is the Ryugenji Mabu Mine Shaft.
The Ryugenji Mabu is the second-longest Mine Shaft after the Okubo Mabu Mine Shaft, with a total length of about 600 meters, it leads to the exit through the Tochibatake new mine, which was newly excavated in 1989.
The ceiling inside the mine has sections that were dug by hand using chisels and sections that were later dug by machine, indicating that mining methods differed depending on the era. In addition, there are more than 20 small tunnels that were dug in pursuit of the silver veins, unfortunately, they are closed to the public, but you can see the inside of the tunnel under the lights.
