Naramata Dam Naramata Dam

The Naramata Dam is a multipurpose dam constructed on the Naramata River in Tone River system in Fujiwara, Minakami Town, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture.
In the past, eight Tone River dams were constructed one after another for flood control and water supply for the metropolitan area, but water demand became even tighter due to the ever-increasing population in the metropolitan area and the expansion of industrial areas. For these reasons, the multipurpose dam project was started in 1973, and the Naramata Dam was completed in 1990.
The rock-fill dam embankment reaches a height of 158 meters and opens a large panorama of the Oku-tone area where the nature of the four seasons shines in front of the visitors of the observatory.
