Sadamitsu townscape of double-layered Udatsu construction
The Sadamitsu district prospered with leaf tobacco and sink until around 1955. If you look closely at the buildings with eaves, you can see a two-tiered Udatsu (firewall) on the roof. Udatsu was initially installed as a sleeve wall for disaster prevention, but it is said that very wealthy houses slowly but surely turned double-layered Udatsu construction into real competition. The front of Sadamitsu's Udatsu is decorated with a trowel picture pattern for each house, which makes the architecture here look incredibly artistic.
