Lake Notoro is located in Abashiri Quasi-National Park. Since 1973, it has been filled with pure seawater. With many colonies of coral grass growing at its sides, the whole area turns red during the fall.

Visitors can enjoy shellfish gathering between mid-April and mid-October. The coral grass reaches its peak in September.
Abashiri bus from JR Abashiri station- Get on the bus heading towards Tokoro, and get off at "Notori fishing port" (10 min. ride.) The lake is at a 20 minute walk from the bus stop.- Get on the bus heading towards Tokoro / Lake Saroma Sakaeura, and get off at "Sangogusa Entrance" (20 min. ride.) The lake is at a 3 minute walk from the bus stop.
