Japan's northernmost hillcountry, ranging in altitude from 20 meters and 400 meters. The area was formed by glaciers 20,000 years ago during the Ice Age, with almost no deep valleys or ravines present. A wildfire duing the Meiji Era destroyed most of the trees, making it one of the few places where you can see periglacial landforms with your eyes.
