Takada Park, in the center of Joetsu City in Niigata Prefecture, is located on the site of Takada Castle, which was constructed during the Edo Period. About 4,000 sakura (cherry blossom) trees are planted along the vast inner and outer moats. At night, the sakura trees and the three-story watch tower are lit up with paper lanterns, and the light reflects on the moat’s surface, making this park one of Japan’s top three spots for night sakura viewing.
