Katsuura Big Hinamatsuri
The Doll Festival is celebrated on the 3rd of March. It is a traditional Japanese holiday in spring celebrated by displaying beautiful hina dolls to wish for the healthy growth of girls. Here about 30,000 dolls are displayed for the festival. It is spectacular to see 1,200 hina dolls being displayed on the 60 stone stairs at the Tomisaki-jinja Shrine. In addition to the hina doll display, there are also some events, including the Hina Matsuri Parade, where kids march around the town in traditional costumes.
Held between the end of February to the beginning of March. The exact dates vary each year.
Many of the festival venues are illuminated from the dusk, so you can enjoy both of the two completely different atmospheres in the daytime and the evening.
