Zao Frost-Covered Trees

Snow monsters!? No, this is nature's work of art: Juhyo (frost-covered trees). As ice and snow hit the trees, they swell and grow. It is also known as the "snow monster. This is a rare sight in the world and can only be seen in a limited area around here in Japan.

The "Zao Juhyo Festival" is held in early February. A variety of events are organized here, and the ice trees are lit up.
Take the Yamako Bus bound for Zao Onsen from JR "Yamagata Station", 40 minutes, get off at "Zao Onsen Bus Terminal" and walk 10 minutes (Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Resort)
